For the 23rd year in a row, the Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ), an affiliate of the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), will be using National School Support Staff Day to celebrate the true value and the essential work accomplished by its 36,500 members who ensure the smooth day-to-day running of our schools.
FPSS-CSQ President Éric Pronovost reminds us it was his labour organization that initiated this day in 1999. “Our public education network would not be what it is today without these workers who, day after day, intervene at all levels in our schools. Unfortunately, even today, the 81 job classes represented by the federation are hardly known or recognized. This special day aims to promote how committed support staff are by specifically highlighting the daily actions of these essential people.”
Workers who make the difference
At the initiative of our unions, several events to mark this special day will take place today throughout Quebec. “Our members have every reason to be proud of what they accomplish because, even with working conditions that are too often difficult, they are making a difference in our schools and centers. So, we want to thank them for their professionalism and wish them an excellent School Support Staff Day,” concludes Éric Pronovost.
