Cabinet reshuffle – Minister of Education gets a second chance

23 June 2020

The Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ) was surprised to learn that Education Minister Jean-François Roberge has survived François Legault’s cabinet reshuffle.

“With all the confusion in the education sector since the start of the pandemic, I am surprised that Mr. Legault has chosen to retain Mr. Roberge in his post”, comments FPSS-CSQ President Éric Pronovost. “I hope this time he will learn from his mistakes and consult and consider our positions more.  Because our members have an extraordinary amount of experience in the field.  This has to be used not only in the development of a scenario for the next school year, but throughout the year,” he adds.

A new Treasury Board president in full negotiating mode

With negotiations for school support staff underway, the announcement of Sonia LeBel as the new president of the Treasury Board comes a crucial time.

Pronovost says, « Clearly we expect the new president to start her term with a genuine interest to reach an agreement.  The FPSS-CSQ is much more than a union, we are a solution-oriented group that represents 30,000 school support staff AND taxpayers.  Our work is essential in education.  We expect to have open discussion with her, to find solutions to the labour shortage, job insecurity and the poor working conditions we have to deal with on a daily basis.”
